Where it's actually legal
18 centres across 8 jurisdictions where the medicine they serve is lawful, licensed or unscheduled. Nothing operating underground is listed here, however good its reputation.
Jamaica
Legal · PsilocybinPsilocybin mushrooms were never included in Jamaica's Dangerous Drugs Act, so cultivation, sale and supervised use are lawful. This is why Jamaica became the earliest mainstream destination for legal psilocybin retreats.
- Typical length
- 5 to 8 nights; 2 to 3 dosed sessions
- Typical cost
- $3,000 to $6,000
MycoMeditations
Treasure Beach, Saint Elizabeth
One of the longest-running legal psilocybin retreat operators anywhere, running since 2014, with licensed mental-health professionals on the team.
ONE Retreats
Negril, Westmoreland
Six-day format with two guided sessions, private rooms, all meals, airport transfers and onsite support throughout.
Beckley Retreats, Jamaica
Good Hope Estate, Trelawny Parish
Runs a structured programme with weeks of preparation and integration around the retreat itself, rather than the retreat as a standalone event.
Netherlands
Legal · Psilocybin (truffles)The 2008 ban covered fresh and dried psilocybin mushrooms but not sclerotia, the underground part of the same organism. Dutch retreats therefore serve truffles. The distinction is legally real but often blurred in marketing. A centre advertising 'mushrooms' in the Netherlands is describing something the ban covers.
- Typical length
- 5 to 8 nights; 2 to 3 dosed sessions
- Typical cost
- $3,000 to $6,000
Beckley Retreats, Netherlands
Netherlands
The Dutch arm of the same programme, serving legal sclerotia rather than mushrooms.
Kiyumi
Netherlands
Trauma-informed six-day retreats capped at around sixteen people, led by Amit Elan, with Gabor Maté attached as an ambassador. Work with the LGBTQI+ community and with autoimmune conditions is an explicit focus rather than an afterthought.
Evolute Institute
Netherlands
Pairs legal truffle retreats with structured coaching and integration, aimed at people who want the experience embedded in ongoing work rather than treated as a single event.
Oregon, USA
Licensed · PsilocybinOregon Health Authority licenses service centres and facilitators. Sessions are supervised, must happen at a licensed centre, and are open to adults 21+ without a prescription or diagnosis. Psilocybin remains federally illegal in the United States. Verify any centre's current licence through the OHA licensee directory before booking.
- Typical length
- 3 phases across roughly 3 to 5 days in the area
- Typical cost
- $850 to $3,000 per session; $2,000 to $6,000 for multi-session programmes
EPIC Healing Eugene
Eugene, Oregon
The first licensed psilocybin service centre in the United States, operating under Oregon Health Authority regulation with clinicians on staff.
Satya Therapeutics
Ashland, Oregon
OHA-licensed service centre in Ashland, also licensed as a psilocybin manufacturer.
Bendable Therapy
Bend, Oregon
Oregon's first non-profit psilocybin service centre, running a sliding scale that reaches near zero for those who qualify, which is the main counterweight to how expensive licensed access otherwise is.
Colorado, USA
Licensed · PsilocybinColorado's Department of Revenue Natural Medicine Division began issuing healing centre licences in 2025. The Act decriminalised mescaline but explicitly excluded peyote at the request of the National Council of Native American Churches and the Indigenous Peyote Conservation Initiative. Psilocybin remains federally illegal.
- Typical length
- 3 phases across roughly 3 to 5 days in the area
- Typical cost
- $850 to $3,000 per session; $2,000 to $6,000 for multi-session programmes
Peru
Legal · AyahuascaPeru declared traditional ayahuasca use part of the national cultural heritage in 2008. Ceremonies are lawful. The country has no licensing regime for retreat centres, so standards vary enormously between operators. Legality here says nothing about safety.
- Typical length
- 5 to 14 nights; 3 to 7 ceremonies
- Typical cost
- $1,500 to $8,000
Temple of the Way of Light
Near Iquitos, Loreto
Works with female and male Shipibo healers in the Peruvian Amazon, with an established screening and integration process.
Arkana Spiritual Center
Amazon and Sacred Valley
Two sites, one in the Amazon and one in the Sacred Valley, with ceremonies led by Shipibo healers and a documented screening process.
Nimea Kaya Healing Center
Near Pucallpa, Ucayali
Deliberately small: capped at 14 guests, with one-to-one consultations with Shipibo healers and facilitators.
Costa Rica
Legal · AyahuascaAyahuasca is not listed under Costa Rican controlled-substance law, which is why the country hosts a large concentration of centres. As in Peru there is no retreat licensing regime, and the absence of prohibition should not be read as regulatory oversight.
- Typical length
- 5 to 14 nights; 3 to 7 ceremonies
- Typical cost
- $1,500 to $8,000
Soltara Healing Center
Nicoya Peninsula, Puntarenas
Oceanfront centre working with Peruvian Shipibo maestros, and among the earlier operators to build structured pre- and aftercare into the programme.
Rythmia Life Advancement Center
Guanacaste
A medically licensed facility serving ayahuasca as a core modality, which is unusual since most centres operate without any medical licence.
Brazil
Legal · AyahuascaBrazil formally recognised ayahuasca as a sacrament in 1987, decades before anywhere else, and Santo Daime and União do Vegetal have operated openly ever since. Religious and spiritual use is lawful. As in Peru and Costa Rica there is no licensing regime for retreat centres, so legality tells you nothing about a given operator's standards.
- Typical length
- 5 to 14 nights; 3 to 7 ceremonies
- Typical cost
- $1,500 to $8,000
Mexico
Unregulated · IbogaineIbogaine is neither prohibited nor regulated in Mexico. That is not the same as legal-and-licensed: no authority sets clinical standards or inspects these facilities. Ibogaine prolongs the QT interval and has caused fatal arrhythmias, so cardiac screening, electrolyte correction and continuous monitoring are not optional extras.
- Typical length
- 7 to 10 days inpatient
- Typical cost
- $8,000 to $15,500
Beond
Cancún, Quintana Roo
Reports treating over 3,000 patients, with licensed physicians, ICU-certified nurses and continuous cardiac monitoring through the dosing phase, which is the standard of care ibogaine actually requires.
Ambio Life Sciences
Tijuana, Baja California
Supplied the patient cohort for a Stanford study of ibogaine in special-operations veterans with blast-related traumatic brain injury.

If you screen out, or you're not ready
A personal or family history of psychosis, a cardiac condition, an SSRI or lithium prescription: our safety guide tells people in those situations not to proceed, and means it. Cost, timing and plain unreadiness rule out plenty more. None of that means the door is shut.
We list 15 practices that reach comparable territory without a controlled psychedelic, which makes them lawful wherever you are, and 43 named centres running them. Some, like a ten-day silent course or a four-day wilderness fast, are harder than anything in the directory above.
